Pego Golf Society Social Scene
Our events during the year
As well as playing golf, Pego Society organise a number of social occasions during the year.
In January each year, we play a tournament against Montgo Golf Society, in a Ryder Cup format - pairs better ball, greensomes and singles - followed by a lunch at Oliva Nova Restaurant enjoyed by both Societies. This has taken place since 2011, and is always a closely fought contest.
June sees our Society Summer Lunch at a variety of venues, most recently El Cid near Pedregeur, with entertainment being supplied by a top local singer, with dancing into the evening.
We have Captain’s Day in October, where a Captain’s team plays against the Vice-Captain’s team in a pairs better ball competition, followed by a buffet lunch at Oliva Nova.
Our Xmas Dinner is held in December - a more formal occasion, at which we present prizes won by members during the year in our annual competitions, followed by entertainment and dancing into the night.
Future Event - Xmas Dinner and Presentations Evening
On Friday December 6th, we will celebrate Xmas and present prizes to our winners of our annual competitions at Oliva Nova Restaurant, with A black tie (optional) event.
Entertainment is by Rob Sweeney, one of the best singers on the Costa Blanca.
Full details are available from our Social Secretary, Malcolm Wise, his final event of his 7 years as a Committee member.
Pego Golf Society
Prize Giving 2019
The Pego Christmas Dance went in my opinion, superbly well for the whole evening. The people who attended the Dinner Dance had made a real effort to dress up, including I might add, the Scottish contingent in their kilts and free flowing dress. It was commented on by the managerial staff of the golf course, just how well the everybody looked . We had many guests there, and speaking to them all, as I do, they were thrilled with their evening, none more so, than the gentleman, who won the star prize in the raffle, which was a dinner show at the Benidorm Palace for two persons, and two nights accommodation at a convenient hotel next to the Benidorm Palace. A truly great prize for such a small Golf Society. There were lots of other great prizes on the night, and the total raised for the Captain’s Charity on the evening was a magnificent total of 420 Euros, so a big thank you to everyone who attended.
Paul Tolley our professional explained in detail why he was leaving the Golf Club, and although Paul was very positive when he spoke, it was tinged with sadness. We wish Paul and his lovely wife, the very best for their trip back to England and I very much hope that we may see him again, back to visit us, here in Pego
On the plus note, we raised an excellent total for Paul as a parting gift, and he was delighted with that. Paul quietly went round every table and said his goodbye’s in his own inimitable way. We wish him every success. Thank you for your kind words, and yes the whole evening went without a hitch. The people were great, the music was great, the dancing was great, and most of all the meal was excellent. I sincerely hope that we have the recipe for success and we should repeat the action next year.
Steve Patton made a brilliant Santa, and thrilled the members and guests alike with his wit and charm. He was ably helped by Anne Grethe who provided all the prizes from the sack for Steve.
The guests and members were greeted when they arrived with a glass of CAVA, or for the non drinkers, a glass of orange juice, and soon they were hustled to their respective tables to sit down, to see if we had anyone missing, but luckily we didn’t.
We were treated to a meal of the highest quality by the kitchen staff at Oliva Nova, with very pleasant staff looking after our every whim. I cannot praise the kitchen and staff enough for the service given to our group, it was superb. I have written to them thanking them for their effort to make our Christmas, and they certainly did.
They kept coming round with drink, drink and more drink, and that certainly helped the food to go down.
After the meal, about 21.45, our musician took over the stage, and really played his heart out, with a great selection of dance music, and soon he had the floor full of Strictly fans, and the floor remained full until the last chord was struck at 12.00.
The members and guests went home with a feeling I hope, that they had just witnessed one of the great nights in the history of Pego Golf Society, and at the end, more than half of the original crowd were still there cheering.
Our thanks to Oliva Nova for putting on such a great night, and to the 64 members and guests who came to the dance, may I say a very big thank you to all of you, for supporting the Society as you did last night
Social Secretary and out.
